Bye Bye Hair Straightening: FDA Steps In

For those of you addicted to hair straightening, it might be time to say farewell to hair straightening company, Brazilian Blowout. After months of debate, testing by multiple agencies and major denials  by company, Brazilian Blowout, the FDA has finally stepped in and issued an ultimatum to get its act together by yesterday, September 12th.

The FDA tested their products and found a whopping 8.7 – 10.4% formaldehyde content in their formula. No wonder their products work! Formaldehyde is a colorless gas with a pungent odor that is often known to be a “human carcinogen” due to its high toxicity and dangerous corrosive effects.

Regardless of Brazilian Blowout’s formaldehyde-free claims, the FDA has demanded that they reduce the formaldehyde levels and update its packaging to reflect it. If they refuse to comply, the FDA will pull their products from the shelves and go to court.

Hair straightening treatments are already banned in several countries like Canada and Indonesia but it hasn’t seem to stop women from using them here in the U.S, despite the serious health warnings.

Are curls and frizziness really worth dying for?
